- Runs on Windows 95, Windows
NT, and MacOS.
- Explorer offers extensive OLE support to other
Windows applications.
- Accepts Netscape Navigator
plug-ins.
- Has a VRML plug-in, Active VRML, not
Moving Worlds.
- Will incorporate ActiveX Controls.
- Internet Explorer 3.0 home page: http://www.microsoft.com/ie/appdev/
- See also OBJECT embedding in HTML.
- Rumor has it that the programmer of Internet Explorer thinks OLE
is a piece of shit and refuses to use it.
- According to someone from Metrowerks: the Mac version of MSIE was
written in PowerPlant by a firm for Microsoft not by Microsoft. The programmers
are part of the Mac programming community and come from such great Mac companies
as Claris, Radius and others.
- Microsoft IE is free to redistribute. Netscape costs 15 bucks a pop
to redistribute, even in volume. That's a big royalty stream to pay for
a product most of your customers can download off the net.
