- Maxis is developing a prototype plug-in interface to SimCity 2000
on Windows 95 using COM.
- They plan to implement the traffic simulator as a plug-in to test
its feasability.
- We should get on their alpha program to test it out and write some
experimental SimCity plug-ins.
- Jim Mackraz, manager of the plug-in interface, and Will Wright, would
both love for Interval to have the version of SimCity with plug-ins, which
they developed as an experiment and are not going to release, and for us
to play around with it!
- Maxis is not planning on making a product out of the version of SimCity
2000 that supports plug-ins. Their focus groups told them that they didn't
really understand the concept of plug-ins to SimCity, and they were not
very interested in buying plug-ins to SimCity (distributed by secure transaction
over the web, for example), because they seemed like just another way of
squeezing more money out of consumers.
- TODO: Link to my summary of Will Wright's
talks.
