- Used by the Low Level Multimedia Interface
to implement video and audio compressors, decompressors, and filters.

- Not based on COM, instead uses a single function
entry point.
- DLL with standard DriverProc entry point, similar
to the Message Handler interface, but
without a window argument. Passed message id, and two long arguments. Windows
defines a bunch of standard messages for the various types of multimedia
drivers, and you can add your own user defined ones. The Low
Level Multimedia Interface lets you send user defined commands to the
driver if you know what you're doing.
