ABSTRACT A Pie Menu Cookbook Don Hopkins University of Maryland This paper is about the implementation and construction of Pie Menus, a human-computer interaction technique of selection from circular menus, based on cursor direction. It describes techniques developed in the implementation of Pie Menus under the X-Windows, SunView, and NeWS window systems. Addressed are issues such as menu and cursor positioning, window shape and size, graphical layout and design, label positioning, browsing, mouse-ahead, an efficient tracking algorythm, feedback and highlighting styles, some interaction techniques which have been attempted, and some which remain half-baked.
