* Maryland
** Talked to the TLO about patenting pie menus
* Summer Usenix in Phoenix Arizona
** Shared a hotel room with John Gilmore, Erik Fair, and Hugh Daniels
** Anne Dianne Beaver showed up for a few days
** Gave a Work in Progress talk on pie menus
** Soaked a lot in the hotel hot tub
** Gave Henry Spencer copies of the pie menu papers
** Gave NeWS and pie menu demos at the Sun booth
** Went to Liz's Woman's boff
** Went to Rawhide tourist trap
*** Left RawHide in a pickup truck to go stare at the stars from atop
    a water tower in the desert with Brent Chapman, Hugh Daniel, John
    Gilmore, and a couple other people
* California
** Worked in for Sun Microsystems, in Building 1.
** Stayed on Mountain View, sharing an apartment with Eugene Miya and Mark ???
** Bought Mark's water bed
*** Sold the water bed to Saul at the end of the summer
** Went to the Dead concert at the Greek with Saul
** Went to a WELL party with Booter and Bandy
** Visited John Gilmore and Laura Creighton in San Francisco
** Went browsing and shopping on Haight street
** Ran into RMS, Fen, and Jim Joyce over at John and Laura's house
*** Gave Jim Joyce a NeWS demo on John's color Sun, and explained
    about the PostScriptures
*** RMS sang his song:
      My Ronnie lies over the radio,
      My Ronnie lies over TV;
      My ronnie lies over the radio,
      Look what he's done to my country!
      Rise up, rise up, rise up against his mendacity!
      Rise up, rise up, not only the rich should be free!
*** Fen Labalme, RMS, and I visited Walter Breen in Berkeley, and went
    to a party thrown by the person who makes "We Are Everywhere"
    stickers.  Fen left the party with a large roll of them. I had to
    hold dark evil unidentifiable plants out of Richard's way so that
    he could get into the back yard.
** Went to mini Rainbow Gathering on Hippy Hill in Golden Gate park
** Went to an ACM presentation by Bill Verplank, of ID TWO, called
   "Designing Graphical User Interfaces" (Aug 13)
** Went to WesterCon
*** RMS told Devon and I why he was really out in California
**** I told someone who asked me why
**** We got whined at for freaking her out, but may have started
     something, anyway
*** Met Mark Crispin, and realized that his reputation is not at in
    the least bit exaggerated. 
*** Went party hopping with Walter
*** Devon and I stayed with a man with a dragon costume and a lady who
    makes small stuffed dragons
** Went to interesting party in SF with Saul
** Went to same interesting party a month later with John
** John and I saw a play in the Panhandle given by The Mime Company,
   about the CIA involvment in the heroin trade in Viet Nam
** Went with Saul to the NeWS classes taught by Owen Densmore
** Met John Gage, Jeff Bulf, Robin Schaufler, David Lavellee, Leif
   Samuelsson, and others at the NeWS classes
** Visited people in the Sun Window Systems Group in Palo Alto
*** Lunch (financial hari-kari) at Cafe Helmut
*** Talked to Owen about all kinds of things
*** Ran NeWS demos on Jeff Bulf's Sun-4
*** David Rosenthal showed me Icon Spin
*** Told Robin and David about the Voystick
** Went to the Dead concert in Oakland with Saul
** Drove to Aneheim with Eugene for SIGGRAPH
*** Gave NeWS and pie menu demos on a Sun 3/60 at the Sun booth
**** John Gage arranged for some guy with a TV camera to tape me
     demoing pie menus
** Went to David Rosenthal's post-SIGGRAPH party with Glenn Skinner and
   Mike Gallaher
*** Michelle Arden said I gave great demos
*** David had lots of RFA taped, and told me the time and the station
** Went to the WELL Harmonic Convergence party
** Went to Saul's housewarming party
** Went to both Dead concerts in Mountain Air with Jeff Bulf
*** Found John and Laura on the second day
*** Brought huge balloon & slime
*** Bought dipped shirt, and others
** Went out to the park for a picnic, volley ball, etc, with people
   who work in Building 1
*** I missed the pie throwing contest
*** One of the managers got pushed into a huge cake
** Went out to lunch at Two Guys from Italy with Vaughan Pratt
*** He suggested a way to eliminate the divide during pie menu tracking
*** Gave me a ride in his Delorian
** Had a goodbye lunch with people from work at El Calderon
** Went to Sun company picnic at Raging Waters
