    Now that SLUG people have had a few weeks to play with Genera 8.0, can someone
    summarize what its advantages are over 7.2?

I wish I could.  I haven't received any replies yet from
customer-reports on issues that need to be resolved before I can upgrade
our sites. (Like, the synchronous serial interface is broken and our
network depends on it. sigh.)
